Infrared therapy enhances and improves circulation in the skin and other parts of the body, which conveys oxygen and nutrients to injured tissues, promoting healing. It supports our lymphatic system, helping us heal and helps ease pain, relieve inflammation, and protect us from oxidative stress.
When your skin is exposed to infrared, the skin absorbs this light and converts it into warmth. During this process, your skin’s temperature can raise to more than 40° Celsius, when its normal temperature is around 33° Celsius. With this temperature increase, inflammatory cells are triggered and damaged cells repair. These results suggest that infrared radiation may have beneficial effects on skin texture and wrinkles by increasing collagen and elastin contents from the stimulated fibroblasts.
Unlike ultraviolet light – which has damaging effects upon the tissues and cells of the body – infrared light helps cells regenerate or repair themselves. Infrared light is delivered to the site of injury or inflammation at certain wavelengths, promoting cell repair. The key characteristic of infrared light is its ability to penetrate even the deep layers of the skin, providing better pain relief. Also, infrared light is safe, natural, non-invasive, and painless.
In addition to pain relief, infrared therapy lamps have been proven effective in repairing sun damage and reducing the appearance of scars, fine lines, and wrinkles.
This suggested that IR radiation treatment at an ambient temperature is safe and does not cause harmful thermal injuries. Our results further suggest that IR radiation may result in beneficial effects on skin texture and wrinkles by increasing collagen and elastin in the dermis by stimulating healthy fibroblast activity.
Everyone responds independently, depending on the age. location and condition of the skin. In general, best results are achieved over an 8–12-week period. For health care, 1-2 times a day, 20 minutes each time. It is recommended to start with a commitment of 20 minutes, which is the maximum time for Red-Light Therapy exposure, at least 3-5 times per week for the first 1-4 weeks.
We always prepare your skin and apply safety goggles when using an infrared lamp on the face. Once your treatment is complete, we apply the relevant skincare and SPF. You may also add the infrared therapy to any skin service in clinic including post laser procedures.
